Want to crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of their women? Battlemaster Zach Yonzon, old-world PvP grinder and casual battleground habitué, rambles on about anything and everything PvP.
Gah. A few more days left, and we’re only on shaman. This can’t be good. Let’s get right to it, then. Shaman are incredibly fun to play, especially with the changes that came with WoW.joystiq.com/tag/patch-4.0.1/”>4.0.1. The improvements on the totem interface in the past have made it much easier for shaman to manage their totems. The best shaman utilize their totems in the heat of battle, and one interesting skill to master is knowing not just which totem to put down for a situation but which sets of totems, now that shaman can drop it down all at once. It’s a convenience that changes a few things. There is also higher survivability, better mobility, and clearly defined playstyles for all three specs.

Cataclysm Beta: Patch notes, build 13117
by Kris on Sep.30, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
We just received notification that a new patch is coming for the the Cataclysm beta. Build 13117 has just been datamined over at MMO-Champion. There are plenty of changes in store for almost every class. Among those changes are pretty nice buffs to combat rogues who get to look forward to the following changes
- Backstab now deals 200% weapon damage, up from 175%. Additional base damage increased by 33%.
- Revealing Strike now causes 125% of your normal weapon damage, up from 100%.
- Improved Sinister Strike now increases damage dealt by your Sinister Strike ability by 10/20/30%, up from 2/4/6%.
- Vitality (Passive) now also increases Attack Power by 15%.
Protection warriors also get a nice buff to threat as WoWhead.com/spell=71″>Defensive Stance will now generate 125 percent threat, up from 100 percent. Pretty significant buff and one that will help keep up with the additional damage being dealt in the instances now. All of the WoW.joystiq.com/2010/09/27/scattered-shots-hunter-mastery-balance-in-cataclysm-beta/”>hunter Masteries also saw some significant changes with what looks like a big decrease in bonuses across the board. Restoration shaman can look forward to WoWhead.com/spell=16190″>Mana Tide Totem being changed to increase spirit by 350 percent, up from 200 percent. All around there are some big changes for just about everyone this time around.
With all the class changes also comes some more news about professions. A slew of new enchants have been uncovered as well as a new recipe that I think every alchemist will be interested in. The recipe for Vial of the Sands has been uncovered, and if you’re wondering what it is, this little potion will transform you into a WoW.joystiq.com/2010/09/18/cataclysm-beta-new-mounts-and-companion-pets-in-build-12984/”>Sandstone Drake! Not only do you get to become a really awesome looking dragon and fly very fast, but a friend can hop on your back and go for a ride. It is one of the more interesting concepts as far as mounts go, and I for one am looking forward to making and downing a Vial of the Sands as soon as I can. Keep in mind that all of these changes are based on the data uncovered from the Cataclysm beta, and can change at any time. Be sure to check back often for all the latest WoW.joystiq.com/tag/cataclysm-news/”>Cataclysm news.

PTR build 13033: Restoration shaman update
by Kris on Sep.24, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
We only get one change this time around, but it is a big one. Back in WoW.joystiq.com/2010/09/18/cataclysm-beta-restoration-shaman-changes-in-build-12984/”>build 12984, WoWhead.com/spell=16190″>Mana Tide Totem was changed from adding back a percentage of your base mana to increasing your spirit by 200 percent for the totem’s duration. This was a fairly significant change that mirrors the shift from MP5 to spirit. It placed the ability firmly in the camp of healers only, and instead of giving us a flat amount back, it increased our mana regeneration based on whatever it was at the time of casting.
The cooldown remained at 5 minutes, which was a bit long, considering the effect. In the latest PTR build, though, the cooldown is being reduced to 3 minutes. This change should also be applied to the Cataclysm beta pretty soon, as well. This is a fantastic change and one that will make us that much stronger in the months to come. An average boss fight right now in Wrath lasts roughly around the 5-minute mark, meaning that you can only use this cooldown once per fight in most cases. After 4.0.1 drops, though, you will be able to use it more than once per boss fight. Pretty sweet deal, if you ask me.
Also consider that in the Cataclysm beta, healer mana is at a premium. Every heal has a right and wrong place, and we consume mana so much more quickly than we have previously. This change allows us to use a very important regeneration cooldown much more often, and so we can keep healing for longer. This will give us a distinct advantage early in the upcoming expansion. Anything that gives us mana back is a good thing. Things that give it back to us faster are even better.

Breakfast Topic: Do you prefer to be the off tank?
by Kris on Sep.20, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by WoW.joystiq.com/2010/02/03/the-new-WoW-com-guest-blogger-program/”>Seed, the Aol guest writer program that WoW.joystiq.com/tag/write-for-WoW-insider”>brings your words to our pages.
Most tanks (and aspiring tanks) want to be the main tank of a raid. It is upon this prestigious player’s shoulders that the success or failure of the raid is often considered to rest.
Screw that.
First of all, we know that stereotype is untrue. Healers and DPS both play critical roles in raid success, even though they are sometimes forced to argue for their significance. But I don’t often hear praise for the off tanks. While the healers heal, the DPS damages and the main tank tanks, these “wannabe main tanks” play critical roles in most every fight. Whether they have to pick up adds or share the burden of boss tanking with the main tank, these intrepid heroes have to work just as hard to keep the raid alive.
I first tasted off-tanking back in Naxxramas (10-man) when I stepped up to the task of being one of the rear tanks on my elemental shaman during the Four Horsemen fight. Here, I received my first taste of the special joy of adapting my skill set to new situations for every fight. I pined to be the one who would kite the zombies on Gluth, but my shaman lacked the capability, and one of our mages shouldered the responsibility. You can rest assured, however, that I was always back there to assist by laying down my Stoneclaw Totem.
My guild fell apart for a while after Ulduar was released, and I was too poor for more WoW. Once I wasn’t poor anymore, I leveled a feral druid, and we all got back together just recently and started raiding Icecrown. Now I’m the off tank, and I’m loving it. Being an off tank lets me flex and show how creative and adaptable I am.
Do any of you tanking types out there prefer the off-tank role?

Cataclysm Beta: Restoration shaman changes in Build 12984
by Kris on Sep.20, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
This week’s change sees us once again with a multitude of changes. We get a few more tweaks and what are potentially a couple of nerfs. Shaman have been referred to as the healing model for Cataclysm, and we’ve been enjoying this kind of protected bubble in a sea of changes.

Cataclysm Beta: Shaman changes in Build 12984
by Kris on Sep.20, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
Thanks to MMO-Champion, we’ve got a fresh new build from the Cataclysm beta on our hands as of last night. As you might expect, shaman have received a few notable changes; what you might not expect is that the editors of WoW Insider gave me permission to write about them. This isn’t the first time in the last month that WoW.joystiq.com/2010/09/09/totem-talk-the-myth-of-the-well-itemized-elemental-shaman-shiel/”>a priest has ventured in totem territory, so I’m going to guess the shaman community has been slipping something into the drinking water at Team Priest headquarters. What are you guys up to, exactly?
Anyway, right off, you’ll notice some huge buffs to shaman weapon imbues, but they’re not actually buffs. The increases in attack power, healing and damage are just adjustments to bring the values up to Cataclysm levels. Other major highlights include tweaking to the enhancement tree and restoration abilities, which we’ll discuss after the jump. There are cookies.

Totem Talk: Restoration glyphs
by Kris on Sep.09, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
.
Last week, we went over some blue posts about healing and restoration shaman, as well as a small discussion of the difference in WoW.com/2010/08/31/totem-talk-questions-blue-quotes-and-healing-waves/”>Healing Waves. We also had news of a new beta build last week, and with that build came the news of brand new glyphs for many or the classes like WoW.com/2010/09/03/cataclysm-beta-new-glyphs-for-rogues-and-shaman/#continued”>rogues and shaman, as well as the new glyph system.
Some of the glyphs we use regularly have been updated, as well as some people may not have really given much thought to using. There has even been a return of some that were scrapped in the Wrath of the Lich King beta phases prior to its release. Some of these may offer game-changing, play-altering effects to our mechanics, while others just add a fun flavor to our classes. So what can we look forward to with restoration shaman glyphs in Cataclysm? That is exactly what I would like to talk about this week.

I’m so sorry I never had the stream last week as promised. I got sick, then The Spawn got sick and we had to go visit Great Grandpa who was sick. Boo! That’s because we are going to have them on Wednesdays from now on. Our adventures will be recapped on Mondays, which begins today with the return of Foxlight and Patent after the break. Ch-ch-ch-changes! But first, the schedule:
