This week’s guest post assignment is for the Cataclysm beta testers out there. Our apologies to those of you not in the beta; we’ll have a fun assignment that will include everyone next week.

Beta testers, we’re looking for reviews of the newly renovated zones in Cataclysm. All of the sub-80 zones that have been heavily renovated are up for grabs, with two exceptions:

I have a question about mastery system. A lot of the description says something like “each point of mastery increases the damage by an additional 2%.” Does this mean each mastery RATING found in gear, or is there another conversion from mastery rating to mastery skill (kinda like how crit rating and crit percentage is)?

Mastery works like most other ratings in that there’s a conversion from the points you have on gear (rating) to the effect you see on your character window (skill). The formula varies from spec to spec.

What are player health levels looking like in Cataclysm? I would assume they’re getting pretty ridiculous at this point. I saw a video with a warlock with 80,000 health …

My level 83 rogue has 55k HP. A tank in level 85 gear with buffs has roughly 100k.

Do you think that the number of humans created after Cataclysm launches will diminish due to the worgen’s ability to be human out of combat? Why roll a regular dwarf when you can play a dwarf that can turn into a night elf, know what I mean?

No, I really don’t think it’ll be an issue. People will continue to roll characters of races they find appealing, whether due to racial abilities or aesthetics — and the fact is that most of your time is spent in combat.

I’m so sorry I never had the stream last week as promised. I got sick, then The Spawn got sick and we had to go visit Great Grandpa who was sick. Boo!
