Making your chat more useful with Playernames and History
by Kris on Oct.11, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
The enhancements I’m going to show today are all located in the HighCPU addon.
So first off, lets enable it.
WoWScrnShot_100910_120659.jpg-600×450.jpg” height=”450″ width=”600″ />
Now, we are going to explore a few features in the Playernames module.
WoWScrnShot_100910_120720.jpg-600×450.jpg” height=”450″ width=”600″ />
Color Names Everywhere does what you might think. Instead of just coloring the player links according to class, it colors names it finds in the messages themselves.
Now, occasionally you will have a name you don’t want colored. For those names there is the /pratblacklist <name> command.
Beyond coloring, we have some other options available to us. Showing the raid icon along with the player name
WoWScrnShot_100910_120949.jpg-600×450.jpg” height=”170″ width=”406″ />
Adding invite links, so that when someone says “invite” you can just click on the link.
Similar to invite links is alt-invite. With alt invite you just hold down the alt key and click the name of the player you want to invite.
Now that we have explored the Playernames module a bit, we’ll look at Prat’s newest feature: Scrollback.
WoWScrnShot_100910_123343.jpg-600×450.jpg” height=”450″ width=”600″ />
Scrollback allows your chatframes to remember your conversations. By default it records the last 50 messages on each frame.
You can see what happens when we use the /reload command
WoWScrnShot_100910_121155.jpg-600×450.jpg” height=”162″ width=”457″ />
That’s all for this entry, I hope you have found at least one new feature to try.

Cataclysm Beta: New videos of druid, rogue and warlock tier 11 armor
by Kris on Oct.01, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
Blizzard puts an immense amount of time and thought into every piece of tier gear (at least, you’d hope it does). For those of us who raid (even casually), it’s the armor set we’ll see our characters in the most. You get a blue drop out of a heroic, and you might replace it in a few weeks. You get a piece of tier gear, and … well, the only thing that’s prying that out of your hands is an even better piece of tier gear.
That said, our datamining friends over at MMO-Champion have released some terrific finds today — the tier 11 sets for druids, rogues and warlocks that so many of you will be wearing just a few months after the Cataclysm release. The druid set, which seems to turn you into some manner of electrified bird-man, is absolutely gorgeous. Warlocks get a nice, evil-looking set that comes complete with skewed horns. As for rogues … well, somewhere out there, there’s a rogue who roleplays as an Arabian ghost — and man, is he happy today!
Though the full warrior set is not yet in the Cataclysm beta files, MMO Champion did dig up the warrior tier 11 helm, so the WoW.joystiq.com/bloggers/matthew-rossi/”>Matt Rossi posse gets a sneak peek at its gear as an added bonus. The video for the druid tier 11 is above; rogues, warlocks and warriors will have to follow me after the break.

WoW Moviewatch: Raid Eats 4
by Kris on Oct.01, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
In Raid Eats 4, Bullworth is out with his nephew when he’s horrified to find that the boy enjoys McVendors. Of course, this doesn’t sit well with the master of cow cuisine. He takes the boy on a wonderful journey of raid food, including a visit from Nutritionist R. It’s a good addition to the Raid Eats series, though I wonder if we’ll ever see Bullworth’s sister again.

Raid Rx: Raid healing rotations and fun-ness
by Kris on Sep.25, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
Do you find healing fun? Are healing “rotations” going to be needed?
I mean, obviously you find healing fun if you’ve been playing a healer for a while. You enjoy the challenges, the reflexive nature of the role, and the potential adrenaline rush. Hopefully, you’re not being forced to play a healer because your group doesn’t have enough others to do it. I know I curse myself when I screw up and let one of my players die. It’s something I take seriously because I enjoy healing.
As we’re all aware, the switch to WoW.com/2010/07/01/raid-rx-cataclysm-healing-overview/”>Cataclysm will yield a shift in healing philosophy and execution. I know some players have expressed either reluctance or caution because of fears that this new style of healing will not be fun in WoW.joystiq.com/2010/03/04/raid-rx-a-history-of-organizational-healing/#continued”>comparison to current or older models of healing.

Cataclysm Beta: Select guild raid achievement requirements reduced
by Kris on Sep.24, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
I admit it. I’m an achievement-holic. I’ll repeat the WoWhead.com/achievement=944″>most idiotic, mind-numbing task for hours on end just to earn a handful of achievement points. It doesn’t matter that I can’t do anything with those points. I want them. I need them. And I know I’m not alone in my obsession — some people play World of Warcraft just for the achievements. (You know who you are.)
Once Cataclysm launches, WoW.joystiq.com/2010/08/31/cataclysm-beta-guild-achievements/”>there will be a whole new set of achievements just for guilds, only compounding my poor, crippling obsession. A metric ton of them are for completing old instances and raids as a guild, and grabbing those points requires 80 percent guild participation. Under the guidelines laid out earlier in September, that meant you’d need to take along at least 20 guildies to conquer Serpentshrine Cavern (a BC 25-man), even if you could easily complete it with fewer.
Well, for those of us who are obsessed with collecting achievement points, there’s good news — Blizzard just cut the required participation rate for all the old school Burning Crusade raids. On the official forums, blue poster Mumper confirmed that they’re treating all old 25-man raids as 10-mans — instead of needing 20 guildies to take on Lady Vashj and Kil’jaeden, you will now only need 8.
The full blue post is after the break.

The Classifieds: Sing that Sindragosa to me
by Kris on Sep.08, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
WoW.com/category/the-classifieds/”> The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including the famous Random Acts of Uberness shout-outs to players who makeWoW memorable.
I’ve seen nearly as many methods for maintaining a raid’s morale as I have seen raids. Everyone does something a little different. I’ve even participated in “strip raiding” before. (I really try not to talk about it, you know? Let’s just say that wipes affected more than just one’s repair cost.) My point is that every raid tends to have its own version of the old carrot and stick.
WoWarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Emerald+Dream&cn=Elexiari”>Elexiari of <Kingship of the East> from Emerald Dream (US-A) tells us that her raid has a rather unique method of keeping spirits high. She says, “We take turns singing after every boss kill, and sometimes at random times for a morale boost.” I agree that it’s a pretty cool way to keep the guns blazing. Elexiari does say they’re struggling with Sindragosa a bit. Our own WoW.com/bloggers/mat-mccurley/”>Mathew McCurley says this group may need to …
… change its tune. (He then put on sunglasses and drove into the sunlight.)

The Queue: Earthinating the peasants
by Kris on Aug.30, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
We’ve reached critical pop culture reference mass here, folks. We’re going to run out of pop culture to reference in quests and NPCs. It’s only a matter of time now. Soon NPCs will have to reference internet memes that don’t exist yet.
McDreamy asked:
My question may not be answerable since the level cap is still 83: any idea where the badge vendors are going to be? Are they going to be in every capital city, or just the lead one (Org for Horde, Stormwind? for alliance)? Or are they going to be at the raid entrance like ToC?
They’ll be in Stormwind and Orgrimmar. They currently exist in the beta but can’t be interacted with.

The Queue: What a lode
by Kris on Aug.30, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
It’s a joke about rocks, everybody. Rock jokes everywhere. Who wants a rock joke? I’ve got a million of ‘em. All rock jokes, all the time, here in The Queue.
Gossamer asked:
“Are there any new Caverns of Time or ‘time-travel-related’ instances in Cataclysm? I’d love to play through some of the old lore that might apply to this expansion, much like the Culling of Stratholme was important in Wrath. In all of the CoT instances so far, we turn into humans (if I’m not mistaken). It’d be fun to play through, say, Thrall and Grom fighting Mannoroth or some such thing and get to turn into orcs instead …“
Yes. Blizzard plans to release a WoWwiki.com/War_of_the_Ancients”>War of the Ancients raid within the WoWwiki.com/Caverns_of_time”>Caverns of Time. Details are scarce at this time.

The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Arms report card for Wrath
by Kris on Aug.22, 2010, under PvP, PvP Bible, WarcraftFormula, WoW, WotLK Secrets, wotlk guide
WoW.com/category/the-care-and-feeding-of-warriors/”>The Care and Feeding of Warriors is about warriors, who hurl themselves into the fray, the very teeth of danger, armed with nothing more than the biggest weapons and armored with the absolutely heaviest armor we can find. Hey, we’re not stupid — we’re just crazy.
And so we come to this, the last in our report card series for warrior specs in Wrath of the Lich King. In some ways, arms warriors saw the greatest amount of changes this expansion. The addition of Taste for Blood and Sudden Death making arms a far more proc-reliant spec than it had been previously, while the improvement of Rend saw the bleed damage of the spec (already somewhat of a staple of the arms playstyle in The Burning Crusade) emphasized. Arms started off in Naxx as lower in damage but competitive with fury, while it remained a fairly dominant PvP spec (but saw a challenge to its popularity from protection by about the middle range of the expansion’s life cycle) throughout. Arms’ damage and raid viability saw its high point in Ulduar, and unfortunately (for me, as a PvE-specced arms warrior) WoW.com/2010/05/06/icc-dps-analysis-by-spec/”>then entered a slow decline that continues to this day.
I said last week, “I considered writing the arms report card instead, but considering the PvE state of arms, I just got depressed. ‘Still OK for PvP’ doesn’t seem like enough for a column.” While that’s a fair statement, it is extremely oversimplified. Arms is a very solid leveling spec, as it outperforms fury until a certain gear threshold is met and requires less expertise (since Overpower, one of its bread-and-butter strikes, cannot be dodged, and arms has an expertise talent), and arms can generally be sure that Overpowers will critically hit due to the higher crit rate from Improved Overpower. Arms’ main PvE limitation is based around the fact that as a bleed-heavy, proc-dependent spec that makes little use of Heroic Strike, it simply doesn’t scale in the same berserk manner as fury once rage becomes less of an issue.
Let’s look at what arms does well and what keeps it a potent PvP force while preventing it from matching up with fury in PvE.
