In a followup to a story we posted last Saturday evening about WoW.joystiq.com/2010/09/25/amazon-just-sent-out-a-bunch-of-emails-about-cataclysms-release/”>Amazon spamming everyone who pre-ordered with shipping updates, Amazon’s now done it again. This time, Amazon is saying that the Cataclysm Collector’s Edition will arrive for those who pre-ordered it sometime in January. We don’t consider Amazon a good source for release date information, but with the sheer number of people sending us tips about it, we find it’s important to acknowledge and report it.

There is still no official word from Blizzard on the release date, and the only way we can attempt to get it out of them is to say, “Please?” Maybe give the blues some flowers, ask them what their favorite dishes are … (Not that we’re gonna cook it for them, but we’ll order it from Zanzibar.)

Maybe then they’ll tell us the release date.

I have a question about mastery system. A lot of the description says something like “each point of mastery increases the damage by an additional 2%.” Does this mean each mastery RATING found in gear, or is there another conversion from mastery rating to mastery skill (kinda like how crit rating and crit percentage is)?

Mastery works like most other ratings in that there’s a conversion from the points you have on gear (rating) to the effect you see on your character window (skill). The formula varies from spec to spec.

No, really, heroics are hard. I expect some tuning, but on the whole, there are challenges ahead for us in Cataclysm. On the one hand, I’m excited. I like challenge! On the other hand, I will never use the dungeon finder tool again. No offense.

When I build my toons, I always spin them around and pick the hairstyle that looks best from the back, since 99% of the time spent looking at my toon is spent looking at the back.

No, I really don’t think it’ll be an issue. People will continue to roll characters of races they find appealing, whether due to racial abilities or aesthetics — and the fact is that most of your time is spent in combat.
