Funcom today revealed that they’ve reached an agreement with EA Partners, a division of Electronic Arts, to co-publish The Secret World, their new modern-day sci-fi MMO.

While it’s been a few months since we last heard about the game, this new information provides some hope that we’ll see more of it soon. With PAX East and GDC San Francisco coming up, it’s a great opportunity for Funcom to kick-start the marketing machine and get The Secret World out into the limelight.

“We are tremendously excited to be working with what is undoubtedly the world-leading games publisher for the past decade, and it is also a great testament to the fantastic work of our development team,” says Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas. “The experience and the knowledge that Electronic Arts brings to the table will be instrumental in allowing us to realize the full potential of‘The Secret World’.”

This is going to free up the burden of having to manage retail distribution channels, affording Funcom the chance to focus on a specific section of the market: digital distribution.

Sadly no release date has been given, so it’s probably a bit premature to add this to any “what to watch for” lists for 2011. Anticipated game? Absolutely.

Activision Publishing today confirmed the development of PROTOTYPE 2, the sequel to Radical Entertainment‘s best-selling 2009 title, PROTOTYPE. The first official trailer was released during this weekend’s Spike VGAs, and gives a first-ever glimpse into Sgt. James Heller, and why he is seeking to destroy the original game’s anti-hero, Alex Mercer.

“When PROTOTYPE surpassed 2MM units we knew gamers would want a sequel to find out what happens next with Alex Mercer,” said Ken Rosman, Studio Head, Radical Entertainment. ”The team here at Radical is sincerely grateful to the fans and we are laser focused on delivering an even bigger and better experience with PROTOTYPE 2!”

While the game is not due out until 2012, fans can expect an exclusive, in-depth preview of PROTOTYPE 2 in the April 2011 issue of EGM Magazine. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the original PROTOTYPE yet, it’s now available for digital download over the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for $29.99 USD, and will be available on the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 3 on December 14, 2010 for $29.99 USD.

The new character creator coming to EVE Online with its Incursion expansion — the next major update to the game — is now available for testing on the Singularity test server, as of a few days ago. The video above is the first-look that CCP posted back in October to build up interest.

We’ll be posting a separate impressions article, once we’ve had a chance to test out the character creator for ourselves. Stay tuned, based on the video this looks to be one of the most comprehensive character creators to be introduced in a game.

Well that was a close race! The Horde has unlocked its first content on the Azeroth’s Fortune website. It’s a video interview with Jesse McCree — Lead Level Designer for World of Warcraft — who spent a lot of time working on the Goblin and Worgen starting areas.

Jesse talks about the challenges of fitting two already-existing races in Warcraft lore into a game now six years old. He also touches on things different in the Goblin and Worgen areas compared to other races. They will utilize a lot of terrain phasing, and Blizzard feels that most who play the races will already be experienced players, meaning that they do a lot less hand-holding.

Today Nexon Americaannounced a charity fundraiser involving their popular free to play MMO Mabinogi. Starting today, 50% of the proceeds from the sales of the new Starlight Scepter — priced at approximately $4 USD — will be donated to the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The Starlight Scepter fundraiser will last an entire year, until November 2011.

“Our players have shown great heart and spirit, and I expect that they will embrace Starlight’s mission without hesitation,” said Charles Park, Nexon America’s producer of Mabinogi. “It is important to our players, the game and to our company that we reach outside our business and support those in need. Starlight is a great cause, and we are humbled to be able to help.”

The Starlight Scepter isn’t the only fundraiser Nexon is running to help the Starlight Children’s Foundation, either. For every sale of the Mabinogi Soundtrack on iTunes, Nexon will donate 100%of the proceeds to the foundation. Priced at $0.99 USD, that means every soundtrack purchase will see $0.35 USD go to a great cause.

UTV True Games revealed Faxion Onlinein May of this year, and there’s already information coming out from the studio about character abilities in the game. The unique Heaven-versus-Hell theme affords UTV True Games the ability to implement very cool abilities — both in their use and visually.

Today we’ve received details on a handful of these abilities, as well as screenshots showing off their visual effects. The game will be shipping with 50 abilities per class, so consider the below just a very small sampling.

While unlocking abilities will be granted through traditional leveling methods, each ability has additional ranks to improve it. These ranks are instead attained through training-over-time, and you won’t even need to be logged in to advance their ranks. In addition, you’ll be able to speed this up via micro-transactions, if you so choose.

One ability, Shockwave, looks like a sphere of “Force” energy what will knock back nearby enemies and deal damage to them. Another, Tribunal, allows players to flourish their weapon and strike all enemies within range of their attack. The last ability information is on Legion, an ability exclusive to the Hell faction that releases a demonic contagion on a target enemy and any other enemies standing close by.

Just in time to kick off the New York Comic Con, Sony Online Entertainment has released six new screenshots of its upcoming comic MMO, DC Universe Online.

While DC Universe Online was recently delayed until 2011, this isn’t stopping SOE from releasing new information and glimpses of the action within the game.
