In a followup to a story we posted last Saturday evening about WoW.joystiq.com/2010/09/25/amazon-just-sent-out-a-bunch-of-emails-about-cataclysms-release/”>Amazon spamming everyone who pre-ordered with shipping updates, Amazon’s now done it again. This time, Amazon is saying that the Cataclysm Collector’s Edition will arrive for those who pre-ordered it sometime in January. We don’t consider Amazon a good source for release date information, but with the sheer number of people sending us tips about it, we find it’s important to acknowledge and report it.

There is still no official word from Blizzard on the release date, and the only way we can attempt to get it out of them is to say, “Please?” Maybe give the blues some flowers, ask them what their favorite dishes are … (Not that we’re gonna cook it for them, but we’ll order it from Zanzibar.)

Maybe then they’ll tell us the release date.

The new following conversion rates go into effect in WoW.joystiq.com/tag/patch-4.0.1/”>Patch 4.0.1:

• Emblems of Triumph = 11.58 justice points (up from 2.75)
• Emblems of Frost = 11.58 justice points (up from 2.75)
• Justice point cap = 4,000 points (around 345 emblems)
• Justice points over cap = 47.5 silver each after patch 4.0.3 (down from 2 gold)

Hard upon the heels of that comes patch 13117. If there’s one thing I’m sure of, it’s that there will be more beta patches that will bring with them more mechanical changes to the class. But I wanted to take this time to cover a couple of interesting recent posts about the way the class is shaping up.

Arms

• Mortal Strike now costs 25 rage, down from 30 rage.

Obviously a nice little quality of life change but not a major dealmaker, I would think.

Fury

• Slam now costs 20 rage, up from 15 rage.
• Bloodthirst now restores 0.5% of max health, down from 1%.

I’m honestly not sure why these changes were made. I guess Bloodsurge was too easy to use? Or it’s aimed at arms warriors using Improved Slam in their builds. The Bloodthirst change must be aimed at WoWhead.com/spell=84580″>Field Dressing making it too good.

Protection

• Defensive Stance now increases threat by 125%, up from 100%.

Not much to say, other than it’s a welcome buff. More would be better, as initial threat is still somewhat wonky (once Vengeance stacks up, it’s not a concern, but the initial seconds of a pull can be rough for a warrior without Bloodrage, shouts just aren’t making up for the loss of that ability) especially if trying to hold more than one.

Another week, another beta build — and a heck of a lot more testing. Since the beta process is getting further along these days, I figured it was time to sit down and start hashing out our final level 85 stat conversions and learn how our pet scaling actually works. While on the surface this sounds like a lot of work, the lack of tooltips (and the prevalence of bugged tooltips) made it a heck of a lot of work.

In addition to messing with pet scaling, I’ve also been hitting up a lot of WoW.joystiq.com/2010/08/15/cataclysm-beta-tol-barad-gallery/”>Tol Barad PvP and recently spent a bunch of time in the Vortex Pinnacle dungeon. It was in Vortex Pinnacle (following the rumor that a gun actually dropped somewhere in Cataclysm) that I made a shocking discovery that will change the way we think of floors forever.

Well I am a Brit how has played on US World of Warcraft servers for nearly 4 years and I still question whether it was a good descision to carry on with the trial subscription that started me on the this epic journey.

One things is for sure is that I have gained many friends whilst having played a lot of very late nights, many of which I have seen the sun rise from my home office window and thinking it should really be bedtime for me but Achimonde remains undefeated.

Fortunately having a daughter and unfortunately having a illness has curtailed my weekday late nights of late but it is probably just as well, as I don’t think my wife could have put up with much more absence from our bedroom.

I must admit my hunger for playing WoW has neverfalteredand with the prospect of a newexpansionon its way I am looking forward to booking a short holiday (vacation if you like) for the release of Cataclysm and the fun oflevellingmy 5 level 80 characters to level 85 and even topossibilityof playing Alliance for the first time since I created my first ever WoW character which was a human mage, who gotdeletedas soon as I worked out that Thrall is god (For the Horde).

Well back to leveling my priest only 3 levels till 80 and discipline is looking fun to play in raids.

The quests, the new casting priorities, the shiny surroundings, and the fact that I get to be a dwarf instead of a draenei … So much to think over, so much to explore! Now, WoW.joystiq.com/2010/09/11/patch-4-0-1-ptr-patch-notes-ptr-is-live/”>patch 4.0.1 is on the PTR, dragging in new talent trees and new hit numbers to consider and the removal of WoWhead.com/spell=6495″>Sentry Totem. Time to start paying attention. We must not let the sacrifice of Sentry Totem be in vain! There should be no expectations of balance at this point, as all these new level 80 shiny things are developed with level 85 in mind. There are still questions pending on some of the details, so whether our flames are bright or storm clouds are on the horizon for elemental is up for debate. From hit caps to casting priorities, we’ve got a bit to get through in my inaugural Totem Talk, so sit tight, make sure you know where your towel is and everything will be just fine. I hope.

No, really, heroics are hard. I expect some tuning, but on the whole, there are challenges ahead for us in Cataclysm. On the one hand, I’m excited. I like challenge! On the other hand, I will never use the dungeon finder tool again. No offense.
