There’s definitely been no shortage of awesome games this year at PAX East, not the least of which being Firefall by Red 5 Studios.

Firefall is a really exciting free to play developed by Red 5 Studios, a company founded by Mark Kern. Kern was formerly Team Lead of another MMO you may have heard of, World of Warcraft. Firefall is a team-based shooter, set 200 years in the future on Earth.

Firefall allows players to either play in an enormous open-world cooperative campaign, with other players online or jump into competitive multiplayer action online. Multiplayer is going to ship with quite a few game modes, including death match, capture the flag, territory control as well as some new game modes that Red 5 wasn’t able to mention yet.

The game looks great and felt great during our time playing. Each player is equipped with a jetpack and forward thruster. The jetpack can be used for a set amount of time before needing a recharge, but is definitely a ton of fun to use. When combined with the forward thruster, players can traverse the map quickly to reach the heart of the action.

This weekend at PAX East 2011 we had a chance to sit down and check out Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, the latest offering from Boston start-up Torn Banner Studios.

Chivalry has its origins in another title worked on by Torn Banner studios, which was actually a really popular Half-Life 2 mod, Age of Chivalry. With this new project, Torn Banner have built on that success and concept into a completely standalone title.

I know that I had originally promised to continue on with the next edition of the Art of Staying Alive this week; however, I just really couldn’t put it off any longer. You see, I have a confession that I must make: I’m … an afflock. It’s true, and I’m not ashamed to say it either. Destruction and demonology are fun past times that I’ve “experimented” with, but I’m 100% affliction. I’ve tried forcing myself to change. I’ve told myself it’s just not normal to be affliction. But I can’t help it. I can’t change who I am.

Really though, I do have a deep love for affliction, and the changes that have been made to it on the PTR so far are fairly interesting, and I think that they are worth talking about. For the dark types who wish they were more like mages, well, I’m sorry, this week isn’t going to focus on you. Maybe another time.
